AI Has Become Accessible: Why SMBs Are Adopting It Faster Than Ever

Artificial intelligence has officially crossed the threshold from “emerging technology” to

everyday business utility. Over the past year, SMB adoption has accelerated

dramatically — with industry research showing that more than two thirds of small and

midsize companies now use AI in at least one part of their business, up sharply

from just a few years ago. What changed? AI finally became easy.

This is the first article in a three part series from Anavo Growth Partners on how SMBs

can begin using AI today. And the timing matters. The companies that embrace AI now

will be the ones that outperform competitors over the next 5–7 years. The ones that

wait risk becoming the organizations that “fell behind” during one of the most important

technology shifts of our generation.

The biggest reason adoption has surged is accessibility. AI is no longer a standalone,

complex system requiring specialized talent. It’s now embedded directly into the tools

SMBs already use — email platforms, CRM systems, accounting software, project

management tools, and even everyday office applications. What once required a data

scientist now requires little more than curiosity and a willingness to experiment.

Getting started is simpler than most leaders expect. The key is to begin small, focus on

practical use cases, and build confidence through early wins.

How SMBs Can Get Started Today

  • Choose one practical use case that solves a real bottleneck (content creation,

    customer support, invoicing, scheduling).

  • Use AI features already built into your existing tools — most platforms now

    include them.

  • Start with a small pilot, measure results, and expand gradually.

  • Train your team lightly — focus on how AI supports their work, not on technical

    complexity.

  • Create simple guardrails for accuracy, privacy, and quality control.

  • Celebrate early wins to build momentum and reduce resistance.

AI is no longer a future investment — it’s a present day advantage. And the companies

that begin now will be the ones that thrive in the next era of growth.
